「老黑爵」的原曲是「Old Black Joe」，同樣是美國民謠之父佛斯特（Stephen Collins Foster）的作品，其作品有五首被編入101世界名歌集，這是最後介紹的一首，中文歌詞是蕭而化所譯。這首歌是佛斯特最窮途潦倒時候，為了生活所賣出的作品之一，旋律緩慢帶點憂傷，來述說一個名叫Joe的黑人故事，過了不久，南北戰爭爆發，這首也成了黑奴的精神支柱。
